Program notes: In the Old Testament book of Habakkuk, the prophet looks around and sees complete devastation: famine, war, disease, and death. Amid it all, he refuses to be defeated but through faith and perseverance trusts that the LORD will see him through to a better day. In this piece, I aim to musically express Habakkuk’s grit and determination to continue to rejoice during suffering.
