Duration | Approx. 5’ |
Premiere | September 30, 2017 New Music Festival Christ Church, Fitchburg, MA Christ Church Choir, directed by Robert Potterton III |
Text | “Our Dwelling Place”, by Madame Jeanne Marie Guyon (translation unknown)
I love, my God, but with no love of mine. |
Notes | I found the text to Madame Guyon’s poem while perusing my church’s hymnal and decided to set it to music. The text appealed to me as it captured my feelings that, without Jesus Christ, I am nothing, and I find my ultimate fulfillment in Him.
For those who may use this piece in a religious setting, or for those who are simply curious, the following are a list of Scriptures (not exhaustive) that relate to the themes of this poem: Psalm 36:7-9; 42:1-2 |
